Hydrangeas and Mother’s Day go hand in hand. These flowers symbolize heartfelt emotion, gratitude, and deep understanding which is what our mothers deserve!
Below are 3 tips for keeping your Hydrangeas happy and healthy:
1. Keep in a location that’s mostly full shade. They can handle a little bit of morning sun, but anything past two hours of direct sunlight isn’t ideal.
2. We joke that they aren’t called hydra-ngeas for nothing, hydra translating to water. These stunning shrubs need quite a bit of water to thrive, especially here in our hot, 9B grow zone. Keep the soil moist but not soaking wet.
3. They bloom in early spring into the summer in our zone, so once blooms are spent, remove them and maintain watering through the summer and fall. Be sure to fertilize come late winter/early spring to encourage new blooms.
