How to Plant a Bougainvillea

We know sometimes a Bougainvillea can be a little tricky when it comes to getting it to bloom. Here’s how we recommend planting:

Leave it in the pot!

• Cut 4 large X’s on the sides of the pot, and cut away the rim so you won’t see it once it’s been planted.

• Dig a hole twice as wide and just as deep as the pot, add your Bio-tone, and backfill with amended soil – we recommend the Black Gold Garden Compost Blend.

• Once planted, water every day for the first month, every other day for the second month, and twice a week for the third month.

We know this goes against everything we’ve learned as gardeners, but it works! Over time, the stress of confined roots contributes to more blooms. Also, young Bougainvilleas have a sensitive root system and leaving them in the pot reduces transplant shock.

Anybody can sell you plants, we make sure you succeed.
