You’ve heard of Agave, you might’ve heard of Manfreda, but have you ever heard of Mangave?
Mangave is a hybrid between the two! It brings together the durability and size of an Agave and the vivid colors from the Manfreda.
This new genus of plant was only introduced into retail stores in 2004. To give perspective, the Agave plant has been around for over 10,000 years!
What makes these spiny specimens so interesting? Mangaves are drought tolerant, can handle our winters (zone 9b), and they come in a wide variety of shapes and colors! They also make great container plants, perfect by a pool or on a patio.
Their watering requirements can vary depending on your personal preference — how neat! Frequent waterings (when soil is dry) will promote a high growth rate, and with less frequent waterings, the plant will stay smaller.
