SpaceX launch from the water

It Never Gets Old

Click to Listen Button

Did you see the SpaceX launch this week? The launch was supposed to be on Monday morning, but clouds and rain delayed the launch until Tuesday. And I’m glad it did. I happened to be rowing in the water just off Davis Island when launch time arrived. Pitch black and clear skies made an absolutely perfect place for viewing.

I grew up in Florida and can remember using the airport parking lot as a spot to watch the space shuttle launches. One year, we even ended up over at Cape Canaveral for a launch, and while you can’t get super close, found somewhere nearby to watch it. But as common as some of these launches are becoming, they just never get old.

They are amazing to watch, and then they leave a cool sort of cloud behind in the sky. This morning’s was less colorful than the jellyfish cloud from a few weeks ago, but still one of those experiences that never gets old.

And it isn’t just up in the sky where this happens, it is in our gardens too. And we’re celebrating one of the most enchanting garden dwellers this weekend: The Butterfly. Like watching a rocket launch, when a butterfly shows up, even when you’ve seen a thousand before you can’t help but stare. To imagine where this little miracle of nature is headed so quickly and with such purpose.

So come celebrate butterflies at this weekend’s Butterfly Bonanza and check out all of the beautiful plants that will make your garden the place for all the neighborhood butterflies. We also have spots left for our Butterfly Pot Painting Make & Take Workshop on Saturday at 10am. Show off your artistic skills as you paint a beautiful butterfly on a terracotta pot, and then plant it with a brightly colored penta to bring all the butterflies in.

Butterflies and space rockets are great reminders to look up, look around and pause every now and then to marvel at all of the amazing things in our world. It should never get old.
