Biochar is a chunky, black residue created when pure carbon is captured and stored, preventing said carbon from releasing into our atmosphere.
Sunshine® Black Bear™ Potting Mix features sustainable Canadian peat and biochar, which is made from by-products from the lumber industry. This means no biosolids or heavy metal contaminants, making it extra safe for pets and people.
And thanks to the biochar, a single 1.5 cubic-foot bag removes and stores the equivalent of 129 balloons filled with CO2.
Additionally, the biochar provides drainage for plants while the rich peat helps with root development.
And biochar is not a fertilizer, merely an additive that stores carbon, so feel free to still use Bio-tone® Starter Plus or your favorite fertilizer when planting.
