I’m Not Crying, You’re Crying

Click to Listen Button

Are you ready for a good cry? As I was scrolling recently, a video came across my feed. It hit me for two reasons. One, because I have daughters who used to be little, and second, because ever since our family started rowing, we’ve been into increasing our fitness level, and kettlebells are a key component in the workouts for rowing.

Watch the video here:

I’m not crying, you’re crying! There is something so sweet about the video. At first, you have no idea why Grandpa is starting to work out with a rusty old kettlebell. You can tell that the neighbor and even his daughter are a little unsure of what he is doing. But he doesn’t care! He just keeps at it with his one goal in mind – to be able to lift his granddaughter up to put the star on the tree. Such a sweet moment!

And as if that’s not enough, my friend who owns Dothan Nurseries up in Alabama sent out his e-newsletter last week, and it had this video in it:

It’s another good one. I think it is from a Polish energy company, and besides not having dry eyes after watching the video, I really love the line at the end: “The Energy of Christmas Never Goes Out.”

Just like Scrooge says at the end of A Christmas Carol: “I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.” The light and energy of Christmas should be with us throughout the year.

And not just throughout the year, throughout our entire lives. Since we are already shedding a tear or two, whenever I read my girls The Polar Express, I have trouble reading the last paragraph without choking up a little:

“At one time, most of my friends could hear the bell. But as years passed, it fell silent for all of them. Even Sarah found, one Christmas, that she could no longer hear its sweet sound. Though I have grown old, the bell still rings for me, as it does for all who truly believe.”

As you go through this last week before Christmas, remember that even though Christmas Day will come and go, the energy and the love of Christmas never go out. May you feel them in your heart and always hear the bell of Christmas. Enjoy the moments now while you are in them and make memories that will last throughout the rest of your life.
