I’m excited.
I feel like the last few newsletters have been heavy with life lessons and turning into new year kinds of musings, so today, instead of acting like a self-help book, I wanted to share with you all of the fun we have planned for the spring season. I know it is still mid-January, and we are back into some cooler temperatures, but spring is right around the corner – a gardener’s favorite time of year.
We’ll kick it off with our first “Sip and Shop” on Friday, February 13 from 5 pm – 7 pm. The Nursery is gorgeous when the sun goes down, and we’ll have lights up to help you enjoy the incoming beauty of spring while you relax along the boardwalk. Please let us know you’re coming: click here.
Then, for Valentine’s Day, bring your sweetheart in for a Flower Arrangement Make and Take with flower expert extraordinaire Jo. There are sessions at 10 am and 12:30 pm, so pick a time that works for you and come design a beautiful flower arrangement for someone special or just to treat yourself. Tickets are available on our website (click here). Please note that each ticket is for one participant only.
On Saturday, February 21, it’s time for a Garden Hoedown to kick off the spring veggie season, with organic and conventional veggies and herbs in stock. At 10 am, I’ll be teaching my Spring Veggie Gardening Seminar, giving you all the tips and tricks I’ve learned over the years for getting great harvests of vegetables here in Florida. And be sure you wear your boots, because immediately following the seminar, at 11:30 am on the boardwalk, Miss Emily is going to lead us in line dancing.
But we’re just getting started! On February 28 we’ll celebrate Florida’s birthday and the native plants that make this the land of flowers, and we’ll officially kick off spring with Spring Fling on March 7. There is so much fun to be had in the garden!
In the meantime, bundle up against the cold tonight, and if you need frost blankets and anchor pins to protect your favorite plants, we still have some in stock. Click here for a little information on how to protect plants and here for an overview of which ones need protecting. We’re still in winter, but spring is on its way.
