Maybe a better title for the newsletter would be “My kids are getting old, time is going fast, and it is making me sad.” I can guarantee that over the next few years I’ll provide you with lots of misty-eyed stories about how they were so cute and so little, saying things like “Suit on” when they wanted to swim and “Hold you” when they wanted to be picked up. Now they speak in grammatically correct sentences and even that is a little sad.
As a start to this series of newsletters, this Saturday is the some-teenth Easter Egg Hunt at Kerby’s. I honestly can’t remember which year we are on. My niece turned 18 this year, and I’m pretty sure she was at one of the first ones as a little toddler, so maybe it’s the 16th one or 17th? We had to break for a few years for COVID, but suffice it to say, we’ve been hosting the Easter Egg Hunt for a while.
In my efforts to try to discover how many years we’ve done the hunt, I found myself down an Easter-Bunny-hole of old Easter pictures. Cue the waterworks. One of those little girls in a cute dress and wearing a sassy smile was driving down Highway 60 today.
We haven’t just watched our girls grow up during this annual tradition, one of the most rewarding things has been watching your families grow and grow up each year. We’ve watched little babies crawling for eggs become toddling little two-and-three-year-olds, and then before you know it they are helping their little siblings find eggs. Every year when it comes time to plan the hunt, I’m always on the fence about doing it again. Are we really going to stuff 6000 eggs again? And I always give in because I love seeing all the kids just waiting for 10 am sharp to arrive. They’ve always scoped out a bunch of eggs and are ready to go the second the Easter Bunny says it’s time.
We hope you and your family will join us this Saturday for this fun tradition. By the time you arrive, all 6000 eggs will be hidden among the amazing flowers of spring and the Easter Bunny will be telling dad jokes. Parking is always a little tough, so be sure to get here a few minutes early to find a spot and get in position for egg hunting. And please note that our Wheeler Road entrance will be closed through the morning to allow more space for hiding eggs. It’s going to be a fun weekend, celebrating Easter, celebrating spring, and celebrating an annual tradition.
